- Individual Counseling is the best
way to make changes in your life. Some people believe that one has to be non-functional or seriously mentally-ill
to see a counselor. That just isn't true. A counselor is a person who specializes in helping clients clarify
what they want out of life. Together they identify the obstacles in the way. And finally, the client
overcomes the barriers, moving into the life they imagined. No one deserves to be unhappy or afraid most of the time.
Many who feel depressed or anxious think there is no solution. Many living with depression, anxiety and limiting beliefs
about themselves don't realize how many others feel or have felt the same way. They compare the way they feel inside
with the way others look on the outside. Seeing a counselor is nothing more than consulting a specialist in helping
people change.
- Depression is called the "common cold" of mental health. It is the result
of prolonged stress. Some forms of depression are the result of life events or losses and improve over time. Other
depressions involve brain chemistry. Untreated these types of depression become more severe and effect one's
ability to function normally. Those require therapy and possibly medication.
- Anxiety - Some forms of anxiety relate just to one object
or situation, as in Phobias. Other forms of anxiety cause people to gradually restrict their lives until they become
afraid to leave their homes. Most anxiety disorders fall somewhere in the middle. If the anxiety causes any distress
or limits your success, therapy can help.

Abuse or
Trauma Recover Some people's lives are disrupted through no fault
of their own. They are either abused in childhood, victims of crime, or traumatized by a car accident or some other
significant event. They can re-experience the event over and over in their minds, avoid places and reminders of it,
or have sleeping problems and nightmares. Some think they hear things at night or have unrealistic fears. They
are often ashamed of these symptoms or fear that they are losing their sanity. All of these are symptoms are typical
of a post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD isn't a form of insanity. PTSD is a normal reaction
to an abnormal and traumatic experience. It is your mind's way of protecting you from it ever happening
again by making you hyper-vigilant for any sign of trouble.
Get the help you deserve Seeing
a Therapist is a positive step. It means that you are ready to learn more about yourself, the world around you and how
the two interact. Finding better ways to deal with situations and people is always empowering. Consulting with a professional can
add a variety of choices to those responses you already have. Wouldn't you like to face each situation that
arises with several new behaviors from which to choose? Seeing a therapist in a private, comfortable setting, makes
discovering new strengths just that much easier.
